Bob McGowan-Smyth is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, was educated at Dublin’s Newpark College and undertook his Articles training with Denis J Byrne & Co before moving to PricewaterhouseCoopers as an Audit Senior in Belfast. Bob was headhunted to Enterprise Equity, the leading private equity fund in Northern Ireland, in 1990 and was appointed Chief Executive in 1996.  He has had significant success in realising a high degree of profitability for the organisation with some high profile deals, the latest of which was the Ben Sherman sale for £80 million in June 2004. Bob combines shrewd financial management with a keen business and commercial acumen.

Over his fourteen years’ private equity experience, he has been described as having a ‘nose for business’, his counsel and wisdom are sought after commodities which he has put to excellent effect as a director on some 15 boards of various private and public companies. Bob decided to pursue a career as a private consultant in 2004 and has achieved a number of board positions.  As well as being interested in helping companies in ‘making better business decisions’, he has had a long-term interest in personal money management, having developed and presented his Gaining Financial Freedom course since 1998.
